Sendai Philharmonic Orchestra Relief Fund
Symphonic Stories was held one year after the horrific earthquake and tsunami in Japan. A portion of the concert proceeds were donated to assist in the recovery of the Sendai Philharmonic Orchestra, whose orchestra hall was devastated by the event. The musicians of the Sendai Philharmonic had been performing at refugee centers, on street corners, and schools to help boost the spirits of disaster survivors. We encourage you to make a personal donation to assist in the recovery of the Sendai Philharmonic, as a way for “musicians and music lovers to help musicians.” Donations can be made to the Sendai Philharmonic Orchestra Relief Fund at the Music Center of the Northwest, a nonprofit community school (www.mcnw.org).
Here is a portion of the text from a letter sent by Mr. Shinji Matsumoto, Director of the Sendai Philharmonic Orchestra, to Dr. Burmer of Burmer Music, expressing his appreciation for the Symphonic Stories charity concert:
“Dear Dr. Burmer,
Allow me to once again express our deep gratitude for your holding a concert in support of the Sendai Philharmonic Orchestra. Among the pictures shown on the web-site “support-Japanese-musicians,” the two pictures titled “Mini-concert in Natori” and “Mini-concert in Iwanuma” were taken when our members visited those evacuation sites to play in for the evacuees. In addition to those two pictures, I also authorize you to use the three pictures, “Sendai-Izumity 21 Grand hall,” “Sendai-Electron Hall Miyagi” and “Sendai-Damaged Grand Piano...”
Shinji Matsumoto
Sendai Philharmonic Orchestra”
